We developed an innovative augmented reality (AR) application for the Ilok City Museum that offers a new experience of history and culture by showcasing images of paintings stolen during the Croatian War of Independence. This application helps revive lost cultural treasures and brings them back to their rightful places in museums and galleries across Croatia and the world.
The application uses augmented reality technology to provide an interactive experience within the real world, allowing museum visitors to see digital reconstructions of artworks that were stolen or lost during the war. Using their mobile devices or tablets, visitors can simply point the camera at a specific location in the museum or gallery, where they will be shown images and information about the lost artworks.
Display of stolen artworks: The application displays artworks that went missing during the Croatian War of Independence, giving visitors a chance to see these works in the context of the original space, as if they had been returned to the museum.
Interactive information: In addition to displaying the artworks, the app offers additional information, historical contexts, and stories about each artwork, enriching the visitor experience and providing a deeper understanding of the cultural heritage.
Increased accessibility: The application has been used to set up exhibitions at the Mimara Museum and other locations, enabling a wider audience to experience the exhibit in an innovative and educational way.
Preservation of cultural heritage: The AR application helps preserve the memory of lost artworks and keeps their historical and cultural value alive despite their physical absence.
Increased visitor engagement: By using interactive technologies, visitors are more actively involved in exploring exhibitions, which enhances their experience and understanding of the displayed art.
Expanded reach: The application allows the museum to reach a broader audience through virtual exhibitions at various locations, expanding the reach of cultural content and raising awareness about the stolen artworks.
Our AR application for the Ilok City Museum shows how technology can play a key role in preserving and presenting cultural heritage. By combining augmented reality and interactive content, we created a platform that bridges the past and the present in a way that is exciting and educational for all generations.
