mHNB app upgrade with maps and secure API | application

A growing number of users expect financial information to be available in real time, clearly presented and technically as secure as possible — especially when it comes to applications that use official institutional data and that users rely on daily for practical decisions. For this reason, Prolink worked on a functional and technical upgrade of the mHNB application through the introduction of interactive maps of bank branches and ATMs and the integration of the system with a new, more secure API that lays a stronger foundation for the further development of the application. This upgrade is a continuation of the long-term technical cooperation with the Croatian National Bank and part of a continuous process of improving the digital channels the institution offers to citizens.

Interactive maps of branches and ATMs

A comprehensive list of bank branches has been integrated into the application, allowing users to easily browse available locations by geographic position, city and individual bank — with data structured to provide accurate and up-to-date information on branch availability without the need for additional searches or external data sources. In addition to branches, a complete ATM display system on interactive maps has been implemented, enabling users to quickly find the nearest ATM based on their current location. The map display is optimized for mobile use with an emphasis on loading speed, display clarity and stability of real-time location rendering — an adaptation that is particularly important for users in urban areas where the density of branches and ATMs is high and where quick orientation has practical value in everyday situations. Maps are optimized for different screen sizes and varying levels of internet connectivity, ensuring the availability of functionality under all usage conditions.

New secure API interface

The application has been connected to a new API interface that enables safer, more stable and faster data exchange between the mobile application and the central system — an implementation carried out in accordance with current security standards to ensure data protection, resistance to misuse and long-term system sustainability. The security aspect of the upgrade was set as a fundamental value of the entire process because applications used by users on a daily basis must ensure complete protection of data transmission and processing — a requirement that for an application of an institution like the Croatian National Bank is particularly strict and leaves no room for compromise. The new API layer enables stricter access control, better protection of communication channels and long-term stability of the digital infrastructure that is a prerequisite for all future functional upgrades.

Increased reliability and performance

The introduction of the new API layer and the optimization of communication with external services resulted in greater application reliability, a reduced number of technical interruptions and increased system response speed — improvements that users experience in daily use as faster loading, more stable data display and fewer situations where the application does not respond as expected. All new features are optimized for different versions of mobile operating systems to ensure stable operation across a wide range of devices, with particular attention paid to compatibility with older devices while maintaining a high level of security and performance. The technical discipline in mobile platform optimization that characterizes the Prolink approach ensures that the upgrade brings not only new functionality but also an overall better user experience at all levels.

Practical value as a measure of upgrade success

By adding location data on branches and ATMs, the application has gained a new level of practical value for users who in everyday situations need quick and reliable access to physical banking services — value that is not measured by technical parameters but by actual usability in specific situations when a user needs to find the nearest ATM or locate a particular branch. This upgrade illustrates an approach to mobile application development that does not view functionality and security as opposing principles but as complementary dimensions of quality — an application that is secure but not functional does not fulfill its purpose, just as an application that is functional but not secure does not either. Prolink confirms through this upgrade the ability to simultaneously develop practical value and technological stability of digital solutions for institutions with high demands on quality and reliability.
