The City of Slatina, known for its rich natural and cultural heritage, continues to invest in projects that combine environmental preservation with the development of tourism infrastructure. As part of the EPIcentar Sequoia Slatina project, we developed a comprehensive digital solution consisting of a mobile application and a web-based visitor tracking system. This project aims to educate visitors, promote the park, and create a sustainable foundation for future development. Our cooperation with the City of Slatina was built on a shared vision of leveraging digital tools to support local tourist potential while respecting natural values.
Mobile application for interpretation and orientation
At the core of the solution is a modern mobile application designed for tourists, visitors, and residents interested in learning more about the park area and its unique features. The application utilizes the device’s GPS capabilities to display a precise map with clearly marked locations of the sequoia and other key points along the educational trail. The map helps users navigate the real-world space and provides additional context-aware content based on their location.
The app offers multimedia content including textual descriptions, photography, and videos covering the history of Slatina, the botanical importance of the sequoia, and the educational function of the park. All content is structured for intuitive access, supports multiple languages, and is designed to be accessible to users with various digital skills.
Content management via administrative interface
A dedicated administrative interface allows the City of Slatina to fully manage and update the app’s content. Administrators can enter new information, modify existing descriptions, upload images and videos, and structure the content to reflect on-site changes or new communication goals. The system was designed to be user-friendly while offering sufficient flexibility to ensure continuous enrichment of the application.
Distribution via official mobile platforms
The mobile application is available for free download from the Google Play Store for Android users and the Apple App Store for iOS users. This ensures accessibility for a wide range of users regardless of device type. The app detects the system language and automatically adapts to it, providing a seamless user experience. Regular updates are provided to maintain stability, ensure security, and keep content relevant.
Web-based system for visitor tracking and analytics
In addition to the mobile application, a web application was developed to track visitor numbers via a touchscreen device installed on-site. This tool registers each visit and stores the data in a central system that enables statistical processing. In real time, the City of Slatina can access visitor counts, analyze patterns, and make data-driven decisions for staffing, programming, or project planning. The system complies with personal data protection regulations and does not collect personally identifiable information.
Technology stack and sustainability of the system
The entire solution is based on modern technologies that ensure long-term sustainability, reliability, and scalability. The backend system was developed using a modular approach, allowing for future feature expansion and integration with other platforms.
